Abstract: This paper deals exclusively with the question of Lebesgue measurability of subsets of the set {\bf R} of all real numbers that are the unions of measurable subsets of {\bf R}. Thus, in what follows every set is a set of real numbers and all references to measure are in the sense of Lebesgue.
