ICM98-CL18 (97/11/20): Mirror Sites of the ICM98 and IMU Server

E-mail information service of the INTERNATIONAL CONGRESS OF MATHEMATICIANS Berlin, Germany, August 18 - 27, 1998 Eighteenth Circular Letter Subject: ICM98-CL18: Mirror Sites of the ICM98 and IMU Server Dear colleague: All current information about the INTERNATIONAL CONGRESS OF MATHEMATICIANS is electronically available through the ICM'98 World Wide Web Server installed at the Konrad-Zuse-Zentrum fuer Informationstechnik Berlin (ZIB). The material is kept up-to-date by frequent revisions. In particular, in the near future you will be able to find here the Second Announcement, the program of the Opening Ceremony, the details of the ICM'98 scientific and social program, etc. - long before this goes into print. Sometimes news can be found on this server even before all members of the Organizing Committee have been informed. The same applies to the World Wide Web Server of the INTERNATIONAL MATHEMATICAL UNION (IMU), also maintained at ZIB. Its URL is http://elib.zib.de/IMU/ It may happen that the internatinal networks are very busy or that the ZIB computers (powerful workstations) are under heavy load so that it takes some time to access the servers at ZIB. This may occur, in particular, when trying to connect to ZIB from outside Germany. To save the time of those who look for quick responses, to maintain independent archives for security reasons, and to reduce the network load the ICM'98 Organizing Committee has been looking for mirror sites. We are happy to be able to report that, at present, about thirty institutions throughout the world have agreed to mirror the servers. Thus, for every mathematician wherever he or she lives, a mirror of the ICM'98 and the IMU server should be very close to his home. The initial five servers were installed by helpful colleagues in * Bombay, Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (T.I.F.R.) * Copenhagen, Euromath Center (EmC) * Kyoto, Research Institute for Mathematical Sciences (RIMS) * Marseille, Centre International de Rencontres Mathematiques (CIRM) * Rio de Janeiro, Institute of Pure and Applied Mathematics (IMPA) We wish to express our gratitude to those who offered their machines, technical know-how, their time, energy, and dedication to provide this service for mathematics. All this is done voluntarily and free of charge! Very recently the European Mathematical Society (EMS) helped us increase the number of mirror sites. Both, the IMU and the ICM'98 server, are mirrored in all current 25 mirror sites of the EMIS server. EMIS is short for "European Mathematical Information Service". EMIS provides extensive information about EMS and mathematics in general. In particular, EMIS offers a large collection of electronic mathematical jourmals. All journals listed in EMIS are available in full text and without charge! The EMIS master site has the URL: http://www.emis.de/ We are grateful to the scientific coordinator of EMIS and editor-in chief of Zentralblatt fuer Mathematik, Bernd Wegner, and the technical manager of EMIS, Michael Jost, for including the IMU and ICM'98 server into EMIS. Here are the EMIS mirror sites: * Adelaide, Faculty of Mathematical & Computer Sciences, University of Adelaide (AU) * Ankara, Department of Mathematics, Middle East Technical University, Ankara (TR) * Berlin, master server for EMIS at FIZ Karlsruhe, Dept. Math.&Comput. Sci. - Zentralblatt fuer Mathematik / Mathematics Abstracts - (DE) * Brasilia, Dep. de Matematica, Univ. de Brasilia (BR) * Brno, Department of Mathematics, Masaryk University Brno (CZ) * Budapest, Magyar Tudomanyos Akademia, Szamatastechnikai es Automatizalasi Kutato Intezet, (MTA SZTAKI) (HU) * Dublin, School of Mathematics, Trinity College, Dublin (IE) * Goettingen, Staats- und Universitaetsbibliothek Goettingen, SSG Mathematik (DE) * Helsinki, Department of Mathematics, University of Helsinki (FI) * Kobenhavn, Euromath Center, Kobenhavns Universitet (DK) * Krakow, Uniwersytet Jagiellonski, Instytut Informatyki (PL) * Lawton, OK, Cameron University, Department of Mathematics, Lawton, OK (USA) * Lisboa, Centro de Algebra da Universidade de Lisboa (PT) * Marseille, Centre International de Recontres Mathematiques (CIRM) (FR) * Mexico City, Instituto de Matematicas, Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico (MX) * Moskva, Russian Academy of Sciences, Department of Mathematics (RU) * Novosibirsk, Russian Academy of Sciences, Siberian Branch (RU) * Osnabrueck, Universitaet Osnabrueck, Electronic Library (DE) * Ottawa, Canadian Mathematical Society (CA) * Providence, RI, American Mathematical Society (USA) * Rehovot, Weizmann Institute of Science, Faculty of Mathematics (IL) * Shanghai, Department of Mathematics, East China Normal University (CN) * Southampton, Faculty of Mathematical Studies, University of Southampton (UK) * Torino, Consorzio per il Sistema Informativo (CSI-Piemonte) (IT) * Wien, Universitaet Wien, Rechenzentrum (AT) * Zuerich, Mathematikdepartement, ETH Zuerich (CH) All mirror sites keep a copy of the "master servers" at ZIB. The mirrors are updated every night. EMIS mirrors in Barcelona, Belgrade, Kyoto and Madrid are in the course of installation. We suggest that you try the mirror sites close to your home to find the one(s) with best response time and to set your link to the respective URLs. All mirrors are listed on the home page of the IMU and the ICM'98 server. You can find the corresponding URL by clicking on the name of a site. The ICM'98 Organizing Committee and the colleagues who help maintaining the mirrors hope that those interested in ICM'98 and IMU appreciate this additional service. Sincerely Martin Groetschel President of the ICM'98 Organizing Committee ************************************************************************* This is a message from the ICM'98 e-mail server distributing information about ICM'98 and the International Mathematical Union to all persons who have electronically preregistered for the INTERNATIONAL CONGRESS OF MATHEMATICIANS 1998 IN BERLIN.
