Twenty-First Century COE Kyoto Mathematics Fellow
Application Information (2007 - 2008)

The Research Institute for Mathematical Sciences and Department of Mathematics, Kyoto University have been officially recognized as one of ``Twenty-First Century Centers of Excellence (COE)'' under the program for ``formation of an international center of excellence in the frontiers of mathematics and fostering of researchers in future generations.'' As part of our efforts in the formation of such centers, these two institutional entities have established the ``Twenty-First Century COE Kyoto Mathematics Fellowship'' according to the following specifications:
Since this program ends in March 2008, the term of fellowships is one year.
1. Research (Employment) Duties: Research in Mathematics
2. Qualifications:

(i) The applicant must hold a Ph.D. (or equivalent) or be scheduled to receive one by the time of commencement of the fellowship.

(ii) The applicant may not hold any other job at the time of commencement of the fellowship.

3. Scheduled Period of Employment: The fellowship will begin on April 1, 2007 and last until March 31, 2008.
4. Salary: Approximately 400,000 yen (on the average) per month will be paid according to the regulations of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT).
5. Deadline for Applications: November 17, 2006.
6. Documents to be Submitted: Please send the following documents by registered mail and indicate on the envelope that the envelope contains documents for a Kyoto Mathematics Fellowship application:
(i) Curriculum Vitae (include your e-mail address if available; please also indicate when it will be possible for you to begin the fellowship)

(ii) a resumé of your research results up to the present as well as your research plans for the future, on 3 to 5 pages of A4 [or US letter size] paper

(iii) your list of publications on A4 [or US letter size] paper

(iv) copies of reprints or preprints of your main papers

(v) a list of the names, affiliations, and addresses of 3 people (possibly including your recommender) who understand your work well, on A4 [or US letter size] paper

(vi) at least one letter of recommendation, to be submitted in an envelope sealed by the recommender.

Please arrange (i), (ii), (iii), and (v) in separate packets and do not forget to write your name on each packet. The above listed materials will not be returned to the applicant.

7. Date of Notification of Selection Results: February 2007.
