The Research Institute for Mathematical Sciences and Department of Mathematics, Kyoto University have been officially recognized as one of ``Twenty-First Century Centers of Excellence (COE)'' under the program for ``formation of an international center of excellence in the frontiers of mathematics and fostering of researchers in future generations.''
