Research
Continuing his research project for a unified description of
the interplay between Micro and Macro aspects in physical nature,
Izumi Ojima has succeeded in formulating a general theoretical
and methodological framework called "quadrality scheme", which
embodies the categorical essence of adjunctions between monads
and co-monads. In this scheme, not only a mathematical formulation
of measurement processes is achieved in terms of instruments,
but also a systematic treatment of spontaneously or explicitly
broken symmetries is incorporated, which generalizes the essence of
Doplicher-Haag-Roberts sector theory to situations with broken
symmetries. Owing to this, it has become possible to describe
mathematically an emergence process of macroscopic spacetime
from the microscopic quantum systems.
