Research Institute for Mathematical Sciences Library is a specialized library that collects a wide range of literature in the fields of mathematics, applied mathematics, computer science, and theoretical physics. It is available for use not only by full-time staff members and researchers at our university, but also by researchers across the country. Furthermore, the library also serves as a base for joint use and joint research, and is actively used by participants in core projects. We are also working to enhance our electronic resources. The collected materials are placed in the reading room on the third floor and the library in the basement. You can check the location using KULINE.
Opening hours
- Mon.-Fri.: 9:00a.m.-5:00p.m.
- Closing days : Saturday, Sunday, National holidays, Kyoto University Foundation Day (18th, Jun.), Mon.-Wed. of the 3rd week of August, and New year holidays (25th, Dec.-7th, Jan.)
- In addition, the library may be temporarily closed when necessary.
- Faculty members of the institute may enter the room outside opening hours.
Eligibility for use
Persons eligible to use library materials
- Those who belong to RIMS or those who are deemed appropriate by the head of RIMS Library.
- Those who belong to other departments of Kyoto University.
- Faculty members of universities other than Kyoto University or researchers of research institutes who are studying mathematical sciences.
- Graduate students of universities other than Kyoto University who are studying mathematical sciences and whose use of the library materials is deemed appropriate by a professor or associate professor of RIMS.
- General users who have requested to use library materials.

Please browse library materials in the designated area (Library Reading Room).
Borrowing
Identification (faculty ID, student ID, etc.) is required to borrow.
Borrowing period and number of books are as follows.

Reference books such as mathematical tables, encyclopedias, and dictionaries cannot be borrowed, but they may be taken outside the library temporarily on the same day.
For Kyoto Univ. Member
- When you borrow a book, present your university ID card/library card.
- Books may be renewed only once.
- Books which have been reserved by other users can not be renewed.
For Kyoto Univ. Member in Uji, Katsura, Kumatori, Inuyama, Ohtsu, Shirahama, South and Yoshida-South area
- You can request a book that is held by RIMS Library, but not held at your home campus.
- Please apply via the "Reserve" button on KULINE
For Other univ. Faculty staff and Graduate student
- A letter of introduction is unnecessary.
- When you borrow a book, present your ID card.
For All other library users
- NACSIS-ILL service is available.
- Books can be borrowed for 1 week.
- Inquire at your home library for details.
Photocopying
For Kyoto Univ. Member
You can borrow journals until 17:00 p.m. to make photocopies for yourself out of RIMS.
For Kyoto Univ. Member in Uji, Katsura, Kumatori, Inuyama, Ohtsu, Shirahama, South and Yoshida-South area
- You can request copies at public expense. (Intercampus loans)
- Please apply from "Photocopy/Interlibrary Loan" on the home screen or "Request the literature” on the material details screen.
For All other library users
- You can borrow books/journals until 5:00 p.m. to make photocopies for yourself out of RIMS.
- NACSIS-ILL service is available.
- You can request photocopies at your home library.

Other Libraries outside Kyoto Univ.
You can request photocopies and RIMS Library can borrow books for you from other libraries. Please apply from "Photocopy/Interlibrary Loan" on the home screen or "Request the literature” on the material details screen.
