Research
Masayuki Kawakita is working on algebraic geometry in the view of birational geometry. The minimal model program (MMP) is a conjectural program to find a good representative of each birational equivalence class of varieties, and it will require the termination of flips. His early work is the explicit classification of three-fold divisorial contractions. Currently he investigates singularities in the MMP by focusing on minimal log discrepancies; the termination of flips is reduced to two conjectures on minimal log discrepancies.
